Performing the complete Webern works for quartet is a project close to the heart of the Debussy String Quartet : they have already recorded them for Harmonia Mundi / Radio-France and took part in the complete Webern works at Musiques en Scène in Lyon in 1998. An exceptional concert!
'Here is a sensitive ensemble, with a generous breath and a full sound, whose freshness allows genuine emotion to shine through, combined with a warm intensity and an expressive vision thought out from the inside of the music. [...] For the first time, Webern's melodicism is laid bare. Structure takes a back seat, and the music behind the notes shines through. Webern loses in incisiveness what he gains in mellowness, but these pages do not lose their structural force.'
