Three decades on stage, and still the same energy. The musicians of Les Debussy(s) constantly reinvent the art of the string quartet and chamber music, challenging conventions without ever betraying the essence of playing. Winners of the First Grand Prize at the Évian International Competition, a Victoire de la Musique award, and with nearly forty recordings, their career commands admiration. But it is on stage, where everything comes alive, that they have established themselves as a unique and essential figure on the international musical scene under the artistic direction of Christophe Collette, first violin and founding member.
Virtuoso and audacious, the musicians build bridges between eras, styles, and disciplines, asserting a free and vibrant vision of music.
Constantly evolving, they collaborate extensively with artists from diverse backgrounds: dance (Maguy Marin, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Mourad Merzouki…), theater (David Gauchard, Richard Brunel, Guy Cassiers…), contemporary music (Yael Naim, Franck Tortiller, Keren Ann, Emily Loizeau…), and even circus arts (Cie Circa, Collectif Petit Travers). Music becomes a playground for invention and freedom.
On stage, they play with light and space, transforming each concert into a sensory experience. Through shows like Boxe Boxe, Opus, Nos matins intérieurs, and Requiem(s), they break down genre barriers and invite audiences to rediscover music in a new way.
But Les Debussy(s) don’t just play for the audience, they play with them. Immersive workshops, unprecedented collaborations, encounters outside concert halls: their music finds its way everywhere, challenging formats and breaking down barriers. With them, a quartet, duo, trio, or quintet can appear on a street corner, resonate in a factory, infuse dance, or engage in dialogue with digital arts. Because a work only truly lives when it is shared, they are constantly inventing new ways to share it, staying as close as possible to contemporary sensibilities.
Whether on international tour or in artistic residency, one thing drives them: to make music a playground, a place for exchange, an art in motion.
