Duel Mozartien

avec soprano, ténor, baryton, Quatuor Debussy

— MOZART Wolfgang Amadeus
Requiem KV 626, quartet version by Peter LICHTENTHAL (1802)
Concert and opera tunes, transcription for voice and quartet

A requiem revisited for string quartet, operas without orchestra, the facetious Mozart smiles in anticipation! Two of Mozart’s finest voices at the service of a Mozart who becomes a chamber musician in his most orchestral masterpieces. When we hear the word opera, we often imagine the splendour of the staging and the magic of the sounds emerging from the orchestra pit. But opera is also about lyricism, colliding passions, melancholy, love and death.

The Debussy String Quartet wanted to exalt the feelings that inhabit the characters in Mozart’s operas in a more intimate setting, alongside Amel Brahim-Djelloul, Stéphanie D’Oustrac and Raquel Camarinha in soprano, Sébastien Droy and Julien Behr in tenor and Florian Sempey in baritone.

'Amel Brahim-Djelloul is now recognised as one of the great voices of her generation. At the crossroads of different cultures, her warm voice is at home in a wide repertoire of opera (from Baroque to Debussy), French mélodie and traditional songs from North Africa and the Middle East'
Musicologie.org

'The evening's triumphant performer, Florian Sempey is an exceptional Figaro, who has nothing to be ashamed of in comparison with the benchmarks of his discography. The timbre is beautiful, the delivery firm, the treble full and sonorous, the vocalizations perfectly in place. As for the embodiment, it's a miracle of verve and subtle nuance. Very, very high art, which places the young French baritone at the very top of the international rankings.'
