This is a powerful and ambitious musical project that blends Western and Eastern music, bringing together the fantastic duo Interzone (Serge Teyssot-Gay and the great oud player and singer Khaled Aljaramani) with the prestigious Debussy Quartet.
A production created in collaboration with composer and arranger Manuel Adnot.
Like a puzzle coming together to form a final image, this project consists of several parts that interlock one by one, engaging in dialogue and responding to one another: new instrumental pieces by Interzone and older works revisited in new arrangements (and performed either as a duo or by all six musicians), a piece composed specifically for the Debussy Quartet, and a joint musical setting of several sung texts.
Nestled within the “Interzone” of the ensemble’s plucked and bowed strings are the writings of the poet Zarka al-Yamama, as well as a Nabataean text from 1,500 years ago, brought to life by the spellbinding voice of Khaled Aljaramani.
A selection of texts from all eras, united by a powerful, timeless, and universal bond: freedom and the desire to change an unjust world.
