This season, the Debussy String Quartet celebrates the 150th birthday of one of the most important composer of French music : Maurice Ravel. The indisputable composer, who had a lasting influence on part of the history of the string quartet, will be adding his distinctive French touch to a number of musical programmes.

In keeping with this ‘French touch’, the Debussy String Quartet is preparing a recording of the famous Quartet in F major, the delightful Ma mère l’Oye, and Franck Tortiller’s Danses de Ravel, based on Maurice Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin. A treat to be discovered on Harmonia Mundi in July 2025.
And why not emulsify the flavours of this music with other aesthetics? Jazz inspirations, between writing and improvisation, contemporary creations, encounters with other French composers: the islanders Germaine Tailleferre and the talented Florentine Mulsant (winner of the 2024 Victoire de la Musique as best female composer) will bring the echoes of Ravel to their own works. Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy will also be on hand to embody the subtlest interplay and most sincere outpourings of the impressionist sonorities so dear to Maurice Ravel.

These highly personal tributes will make for an unforgettable birthday!
